There are moments that remind us of the magic of nature – and this was one of them! An otter was recently filmed swimming in the Óbidos Lagoon, a rare and exciting event. Otters are discreet and avoid polluted areas, which makes this sighting a positive sign for the lagoon’s ecosystem .

A special inhabitant of the Óbidos Lagoon

European otters (Lutra lutra) were once common in Portugal, but their habitat has been reduced due to pollution and the destruction of wetlands. Seeing one exploring the waters of the Óbidos Lagoon shows that this ecosystem is healthy and continues to be a haven for wildlife.
